Master of Public Health in Urban Health

The Master of Public Health in Urban Health at Northeastern provides students the opportunity to promote and protect the health of urban communities through education, research and service. The MPH Program is a non-thesis, forty-two credit Master’s Degree Program. The program is comprised of fifteen semester hours of core public health courses, twelve credit hours of core urban health courses, nine credit hours of elective courses, and a three-credit Community based practicum and capstone project in Urban Health. The MPH program is available on a part-time (one to two courses per semester) or full-time (four courses per semester) basis. For most students the curriculum requires two years of full-time study for completion. The core nine required courses meet once a week from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, allowing flexibility to students who work full or part-time. MPH Core Courses include (five three credit courses):

  • Epidemiology

  • Occupational & Environmental Health
  • Public Health Administration and Policy
  • Society, Behavior and Health

Bachelor of Science/Master of Public Health – Dual Degree Program

The Dual Bachelor of Science/Master of Public Health (BS/MPH) at Northeastern University is a dual-degree program allowing students to concurrently pursue an undergraduate BS program while also working toward their MPH graduate degree. This dual degree program allows students to become public health leaders committed to improving the health and well being of our local, national, and international communities and to pursue life-long learning. The program is designed for pre-professional students interested in public health issues. Students in the combined degree program are required to meet core curriculum requirements for both a BS and also for the MPH degree. Fifteen credit hours of coursework for the MPH are taken during the final undergraduate year and the program can be completed in three ways:

  • Five year of study with no co-op
  • Five years of study with one co-op
  • Six years of study with two co-ops

The program is specifically focused on urban populations and the challenges facing modern cities today. By training professionals in these important and challenging areas, change can begin to occur for areas of the country that are in the greatest need.

Doctor of Pharmacy /Master of Public Health – Dual Degree Program

The Department of Health Sciences offers a combined Doctor in Pharmacy and Master in Public Health (PharmD./MPH) degree. This dual degree program allows students to complete both degrees in a shorter time span than it would if each was taken separately. Time for completion of both programs is seven years for most students. Students in the combined degree program are required to meet the core curriculum requirements for both the PharmD and an MPH degree. The Master of Public Health (MPH) program prepares students to become leaders, practitioners, researchers, and educators who will succeed in the challenging public health environment. Students can specialize in one of the five core areas of public health including Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Management and Policy and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Pharm.D. graduates will gain the skills and knowledge in pathophysiology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapy, pharmacy health care systems, and pharmacy practice and combined with skills from the MPH program prepare graduates to make significant contributions to the health of citizens.

Located in Boston Massachusetts, The College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS) is one of the eight colleges that make up Northeastern University System.
